About

Our union stands as a pillar of support

for the brave men and women who risk their lives to protect our communities. With a strong commitment to safety, unity, and advocacy, we work tirelessly to ensure fair representation, stronger protections, and better resources for our firefighters. Together, we forge a future where their dedication is honored, their needs are met, and their service is unwavering.

The Waterloo Fire Department became a professional organization in 1904. Fourteen years later, its firefighters joined departments nationwide as a charter members of the newly founded International Association of Firefighters, receiving the designation of Local 66.

Since our founding, we have consistency fought for and negotiated better working conditions, enhanced safety measures, and improved benefits for the hardworking men and women of Local 66. Over time, we have expanded our efforts to include initiatives like establishing a death benefit fund for our members and their families. We are also proud to allocate dedicated funds to support numerous charitable organizations year-round, and we host our own charity events to benefit various groups and individuals across the Cedar Valley.

As we continue to evolve and navigate the changing landscape, our commitment remains steadfast: ensure that our members receive fair treatment, comprehensive benefits, and a safe working environment. This dedication allows us to continue delivering high-quality fire and emergency medical services to the residents and visitors of Waterloo, Iowa.
